General Questions

Sweating is a totally normal and essential process. Sweat is produced by the body to cool down and regulate its temperature. Perspiration is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. In some cases, this system has a dysfunction and produces more sweat than necessary. For areas affected by this hyperfunction, an application of antiperspirants is recommended. Aluminium compounds seal the sweat glands locally and can thus be used against sweating. Antiperspirants only affect the surface and do not get into the blood circulation of the body. One part of the sweat exudes through the liver, while the other part channels its way to the surface of the skin through other sweat pathways, where it evaporates fast and without odour. Whenever antiperspirants are applied to specific skin areas - such as armpits - sweat can easily evade through other body areas. Armpits, for example, only represent 1% of an entire body’s sweat.

Yes, please note that the money-back guarantee only covers certain products. We offer you a 30-day money-back guarantee, which allows you to revoke your contract declaration within 30 days - in addition to the statutory provisions of 14 days. The statutory right of withdrawal remains unaffected by this.

Yes. However, if you are sweating excessively, we recommend that you first consider preventative measures. If these do not improve the situation sufficiently, you can consider using antiperspirants. If these do not bring about any noticeable improvement, further measures could be considered. You can find detailed information and the advantages and disadvantages of the individual options in our guide.

Antiperspirants can generally be used on any area of the skin. Sweating can also be targeted at several areas at the same time. The excess sweat evaporates unnoticed on other areas of the skin and is partly excreted via the kidneys. However, antiperspirants cannot be used in the case of a generalized overactive sweat gland, i.e. heavy sweating all over the body.

To avoid compensatory sweating, antiperspirants should not be used on more than three areas of the skin at the same time. Various antiperspirants in different strengths are available to combat sweat and odor on different areas of the skin.

Products

How is SweatStop® IXAL used against excessive sweating?

Correct application is essential for the success of SweatStop® IXAL Roll-on. Please follow the instructions for use carefully:

  • Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin:
  • First 5 days: 3 times a day
  • After 5 days or after the condition has improved: 2 times a day
  • After 10 days or after further improvement: 1 time a day in the morning

The overactive sweat glands are normalized very quickly after application.

Notes

Sweat coming out immediately after application prevents the cream from being absorbed. The product must therefore always be applied to dry skin before sweating increases again. This must be taken into account especially in the case of very heavy sweating with running sweat. The frequency of use must be adjusted to this timing.

Odor formation: In rare cases, body odor only decreases after a few days of use. Do not use in combination with a preparation containing aluminum salts! Stop using this first and only start using SweatStop® IXAL (as described above) when sweating has started again.

Warning

Do not use on weeping or open wounds. Only use on intact skin.

Yes. SweatStop® is free of odour after 20 seconds and therefore allows you to keep on applying your favorite fragrance. However, please be aware that SweatStop® antiperspirants do not have any effect when applied on humid skin. SweatStop® antiperspirants must be applied in the evening, before going to bed. In the morning, washing as usual is possible and a deodorant may be applied if desired.

Applying our product properly is the key to their intended effect. As everybody's skin is different, the application procedure varies according to personal skin type. You will receive detailed instructions upon delivery.

IMPORTANT: Antiperspirants are applied to dry skin in the evening before going to bed.

Generally, SweatStop® can be applied on any area of the skin. Here you can find possible areas of application. Generally perspiration can be ceased at different areas at the same time. The sweat evaporates unperceived on other areas of the skin and partially is also secreted via the kidney. A generalized hyperfuntion of the sweat glands, thus sweating at the entire body, cannot be counteracted.
Depending on the product there are different areas of application. To avoid compensatory sweating SweatStop® antiperspirants should not be applied to more than 3 areas of the skin at the same time. To stop the formation of sweating and odor at other areas of the skin diverse SweatStop® products in different intensities are available. Here you can find an overview. Just use the filters.

For skin irritation, additionally use SweatStop® ReLotion. The application procedure is explained in the presentation of SweatStop® ReLotion on our website.

New studies on antiperspirants containing aluminium: unlikely to be impaired by aluminium

In 2014, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) prepared a health risk assessment for antiperspirants containing aluminium. The data situation at that time was contradictory. The institute had therefore drawn attention to the need for research on the subject. Now there are two new human studies that require a reassessment of aluminium in antiperspirants. The result of the reassessment: The BfR states "According to current scientific knowledge, health impairments due to the regular use of antiperspirants containing aluminium are therefore unlikely. ... The contribution of aluminium-containing antiperspirants to the total exposure to aluminium is significantly lower than assumed before." Read the entire BfR statement 030/2020 of July 20, 2020 in German here.

Is the use of antiperspirants containing aluminium hazardous to health?

The BfR states: "Antiperspirants containing aluminium chlorohydrate can be used daily, according to current scientific knowledge, a health risk for consumers is unlikely. This is the result of the BfR risk assessment based on a new human study on aluminium intake by antiperspirants." Read the entire BfR comment in German here.

Is there a connection between antiperspirants containing aluminium and breast cancer?

The BfR states: "A causal connection between the intake of aluminium from antiperspirants and the development of breast cancer could not been scientifically proven so far. In studies on mice, no tumors were observed, even at high doses." Further questions and answers about aluminium in food and consumer products

Is there a connection between aluminium and Alzheimer's?

The BfR states: "Various studies attempted to prove a connection between aluminium intake and Alzheimer's disease, but could not find any clear evidence. Based on current knowledge, such a connection is unlikely." Further questions and answers about aluminium in food and consumer products

Aluminum absorption in the body - what should I put attention on?

Aluminum is found in many foods and consumer products. Aluminum can be found in food naturally (e.g. in potatoes) or as a component of food additives. Aluminum ions from food packaging or dishes can also be transferred to the food.

The BfR comments: "If aluminum foil, aluminum grill dishes or uncoated aluminum menu dishes and dishes are used improperly, a comparatively high aluminum intake can occur. This is avoidable for consumers. With regard to the increased solubility of aluminum under the influence of In particular, acid and salt should not come into contact with acidic or salty foods, ie aluminum foil should not be used to wrap acidic or salty foods, including sliced apples, tomatoes, rhubarb, salted herring, marinated meat or cheese. For barbecuing, reusable trays, for example made of stainless steel, are preferred. Whitening toothpastes can also contribute to the total amount of aluminum taken in. By reducing the use of these products or dispensing with them, the aluminum intake can be reduced. "

According to the current state of knowledge, aluminum contents in the body that are too high can have negative effects on the nervous system, the kidneys and the bones.

Further questions and answers about aluminium in food and consumer products

No. Tap water iontophoresis (abbreviated LWI) is a long-tried and proven method for the reduction of hand, foot, face and armpit sweat. It is designed for use with pure water. The effect mechanism is not fully known, but it is assumed that it compares to the effects of the salt contained in aluminum-antiperspirants: The canals of the sweat glands leading to the outside of the skin are temporarily clogged by coagulation of proteins.
Aluminum salt-containing antiperspirants have been used for centuries to reduce the formation of perspiration. The solution narrows the sweat glands in upper skin layers. If an aluminum-salt-containing solution were added to the iontophoresis bath, the active ingredients which would otherwise be harmless on the upper skin layers would enter deeper layers of the skin and thereby also enter the blood circulation. This should be avoided by any means! The effect of combining both approaches are not known, since there is no empirical data on this.
We strongly advise against using the tap water iontophoresis combined with aluminum salt-containing additives.

You find a list of all ingredients below each antiperspirant.

Iontophoresis during pregnancy and breastfeeding

As the available safety data for the use of iontophoresis in pregnancy is insufficient, we recommend the treatment to be suspended during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

SweatStop® was tested dermatologically. The result was labelled "very good on skin" by Dermatest®, an acknowledged German research institute. The active agent only takes effect superficially and does not affect the bloodstream. Therefore, the solution is harmless, also during pregnancy. As a precaution we recommend consulting your doctor who should confirm this.

Find some reliable sources which confirm the harmlessness of the substance here: Can I apply SweatStop® antiperspirants without concern?

Deodorants prevent the formation of the odour causing bacteria and cover the smell. They only take effect for a very limited space of time, however, as they do not fight the actual problem - the formation of sweat - at its root.
Antiperspirants on the other hand narrow the perspiratory glands and thus prevent the secretion of sweat.

SweatStop® products with 50ml last for about 3-6 months, the 100ml products for about 4-8 months.

Yes. Antiperspirants are applied immediately before going to bed. In the morning, you can follow your usual washing routine and use a deodorant if necessary.
